Ten Easy Ways You Can Participate in “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day”

1. Contact a local school and visit a classroom. We have advice on how you can and what to do when you’re there.

2. Contact a National Engineers Week Future City coordinator and offer to work with girls in schools that are being served or to run a special program for participating teams in February. For a list of regional coordinators, visit http://dev.futurecity.convista.com/RegStart.asp

3. Contact a local girls’ school. Want to find out if there’s one in your area? Contact the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools through www.ncgs.org.

4. Contact your local science center and offer to host a special program.

5. Contact a high school teacher and offer to let a student shadow you on the job.

6. Contact the local chapter of Girls Incorporated. To find a club in your area, visit www.girlsinc.org.

7. Donate copies of "Changing Our World: True Stories of Women Engineers" to local libraries or a high school guidance office.

8. Work with a local chapter of Boys & Girls Clubs. Visit www.bgca.org.

9. Work with a local Girl Scout troop. Some troops may be interested in working on technology-related badges. Engineers Week grants are available for troops.

10. Host a role model luncheon. This provides girls with an opportunity to interact with a variety of women role models. Be sure to have at least one role model at each table with the girls. You might also want to include a panel discussion.
